Each CFES Educator is a talented, educated and experienced leader in their field of work. All have advanced education, "on-floor" experience, a proven track record of excellent teaching skills and a sincere commitment to advancing the professionalism and consistency in fitness education, leadership training and program delivery.


The role of the  Educator is to teach CFES public and professional workshops and courses.  The Educator can collaborate or contract with CFES in developing and presenting current and new workshops and/or courses for certification and re-certification.  At times the educator will approach CFES with a pre-established module or workshop to be CFES recognized for recertification credits and CFES distribution.  The Educator will be welcome to join the CFES Speaker Bureau.

CFES National Educator Certification Requirements

1.  Pre-requisites:
Individuals qualify to be certified by CFES as an Educator may include (the list is not complete):
❑  CFES certified Instructors and or Personal Trainers with excellent experience and professional reputation;
❑  Physical Education teachers;
❑  College professors in related field;
❑  University students in related field;
❑  University professors in related field;
❑  Health and Wellness presenters, managers/supervisors in related field;
❑  Fitness Program Director;
❑  Fitness Club Manager.

a.  Advanced education in related field (i.e. Kinesiology, Physical Education, Health and Fitness degree; college diploma in health and fitness or related discipline); minimum three years experience instructing/supervising exercise programs or are a PE teacher/professor with fitness course experience; or extensive years of experience in the field as an instructor and supervisor and pass CFES Educator advanced theory program or equivalent*;
b.  Receive and or maintain CFES Skills Assessment Evaluator and Leadership Mentor (SAE + LM) Certification;

2.  Submit two reference letters attesting to your professional experiences and meet with CFES Certification Director (phone/Skype/in person) to learn about CFES and to determine career interests and direction with CFES for professional advancement;
3.  Submit Educator Application Form and signed Instructor(s) and Educator Codes of Honour;
4.  Purchase CFES Educator Kits for Fitness Knowledge and leadership designations(s) you are teaching;
5.  Purchase and complete Adult Educator course recognized by CFES (homestudy, classroom or online, fee);
6.  Be assigned CFES Master Educator. Pass Apprentice Educator steps. For each course you would like to teach:
a. Observe, teach class components, receive feedback and pass Educator Skills Assessment with Master Educator;
b. Teach solo a full CFES Certification course in leadership designation(s) of choice. Video 60 minutes of course components. Submit to CFES. Receive good to excellent on all student evaluations. Meet with CFES Certification Director to review educator experiences in your first course. Determine effectiveness and goals for advancement.
A fee will be paid to Master Educator for time to observe and evaluate your educator skills. The fee will be negotiated between you and will be determined by the amount of time spent in evaluation.
7.  Maintain CPR-A (minimum); Emergency First Aid or Standard First Aid and required annual liability insurance;
8.  Submit to CFES: All document copies steps 1-7; CFES Educator Program Evaluation and Certification/Membership fees.
9.  Receive CFES Educator Certification (electronic or paper copy).    
*CFES recognizes BCRPA; AFLCA; SPRA; MFC; OFC; FNB; NSFA; IFC; YMCA and CALA equivalency.

CFES Educators receive a comprehensive teaching resource kit for each CFES course. Educator Kits include: a detailed course agenda, ample variety of teaching tools, techniques and supplies for every aspect of the course from start to finish. The CFES Fitness Knowledge Course, Group Exercise Instructor Course, Weight Training Instructor Course and Personal Trainer Course Educator Kits also have PowerPoint supplements.

CFES National Educator Re-Certification Requirements

Candidate is to successfully complete (80%+) on the following program steps or present an equivalent*:
1.  Maintain a minimum of six verified Instructional hours per leadership designation;*

2.  Teach one module course per year per leadership designation*;

3.  Attend eight hours CFES recognized professional development courses (in-class or online)*;

4.  Attend required CFES Educator Update four hours/year (in class or online)*;

5.  Have a annual review meeting with CFES Certification Director, submit your review of CFES; provide feedback, new ideas, goals for professional advancement; maintain good to excellent on student courses and student national evaluations to retain CFES Educator Certification;

6.  Be visible on CFES website. Required: professional bio summary and a paragraph on why you are working with CFES; Optional: head and shoulders photos* and/or videos*; Suggestions — provide written or videoed evaluation testimonials from students*; provide written or video* submissions of your workshops, courses, lectures, publication and promotion;

7.  Maintain CPR-A (minimum); Emergency First Aid or Standard First Aid and required annual liability insurance;

8.  Submit to CFES: All document copies steps 1-7; CFES Educator Program Evaluation; sign updated educator/instructor Codes of Honour and Re-Certification/Membership fee;

9.  Receive CFES Educator Certification (electronic or paper copy).

* Important: Testimonies using a student's name, photos and video signed permission needed. Both students and educators need to sign a CFES Model Release Form providing CFES permission to present written testimonies, photos and videos on the CFES website, print promotion and/or in our publications. Forms are found on CFES website.

College/University Continuing Education, Fitness Club Managers, Recreation Centre Program Directors
